11 things at 11.11 on 11.11.11

I don't usually post more than one thing per day, heck sometimes I can barely manage to post one thing in one week. But, today is pretty special for more than one reason. It is Veteran's Day. Veteran's Day is not merely a randomly selected day chosen to memorialize and honor the men and women who have valiantly served our country. The date has historical significance as well as it is the official day that World War I ended in 1919. Initially WWI was called "The Great War" or "The War to End All Wars". Unfortunately, with the introduction of unprecedented forms of warfare, it now might be better called "The War to Change All Wars." Here is a little history lesson for ya.

In case you missed my earlier post, today also is my birthday. This day is my maternal grandparents' anniversary (61 years strong today--congrats, Nana and Grandpa!). My maternal as well as paternal grandfather are veterans. Growing up, I always felt somewhat special to have been born on this national holiday that also held significance for my family in these ways. I know, you are probably thinking, "Gee, MK, when do you NOT think you are special." Okay, maybe you have a point. But I am trying to be a little serious here. Just a little though. I don't want to drown you in my existential ruminations.

Only every one hundred years can we celebrate the date 11.11.11, especially at the time 11.11 P.M. Since this is an interior design blogs, I would like to 'celebrate' eleven trends in design that have been catching my eye lately. I hope that you are a fan.

2. Color palettes of white, green and blue. So calm and cottage cozy!

3. Neutral-colored yet beautifully intricate bed frames

4. Punches of vibrant purple, coupled with unexpected contrasting colors

5. Half-wall wainscoting (also known as board-and-batten)

6. Converting closets into office/work spaces

7. Painted interiors of hutches/cabinets/bookshelves

8. Wall-length curtains

9. Detailed windows

10. Eclectic, layered wall galleries

11. Treating the hallway as another room worth beautifying!
